What’s that coming over the hill, ISSA monster!
21 years old. He’s recovery speed is crucial in our defence. Comes from nowhere to execute perfect slide tackles/blocks. Fab, Diop, Rice and Arnie is one hell of a spine. The vulchers will be circling no doubt.

Alex V, did you think his transfer fee was good value?

I dont really understand the worrying that he's too good and will get pinched off us. Its a better position to be in than to have your gary breens and all.

Like rice. If he keeps improving and stays injury free, yes bigger clubs will look at him. Its a fact of life. As long as we get top dollar and crucially reinvest wisely we will progress as a club.

Fabulous CB. As has been said, he is phenomenally good in the tackle and his anticipation is first rate. For me his weakness is in the air - for his size and physique he should win more headers, at both ends of the pitch.

This has always been our problem, we will need to be offering European Football to keep the likes of him (and others) from having their heads turned and moving to bigger clubs, but I’ve never been more optimistic than now that this is not just another false dawn and we can become a team that’s vying for 5th place and maybe even better. Still a long long way to go but in Pellegrini (and our board on the $ front) we must trust.

Did you notice where our highly paid No. 9 was during that break?

Last man out of course.

Top player and will only get better.

One thing I think he needs to improve on is his positioning. He sometimes gets drawn out of position which leaves a gap in defence. There are times when he should be passing this onto the midfielder.

Cannot see us keeping him for longer than 2-3 seasons at this rate unless we get Europa.

i ,love the way he just stands up and blocks tackles face to face - old school CB play that...

Re: What’s that coming over the hill, ISSA monster!
When you look at CB's in the league, he is right there at the top, if he keeps doing what he is doing now we will really need to be winning things to keep him.

he has it all.

Re: What’s that coming over the hill, ISSA monster!
Totally agree, it's his recovery pace that is most impressive. Obviously if you have pace and that physique you're going to have immense promise. I'm not quite as hot on his form as others - I see him as a young player learning his trade in the side. A few flaps and errors last night, and in most matches to be honest, but hopefully those issues will be ironed out with experience.

closest I've seen to van dijk, whoever wants him should have to pay at least £60m, the dwarf probably agreed a £25m release clause

Beyond next season at the latest we will need to be Europe to keep him, I would imagine.

Cant remember if it was on here that I read Man U were looking to make a bid along with something like "he could be reds legend" or some shit. Entitled much? Plenty looked at him in France, we took the punt. Looks well worth the money. We really need to keep hold of these good young players.

Re: What’s that coming over the hill, ISSA monster!
For the 2nd goal, not only did he intercept and play the pass out to Antonio, he continued his run and was the furthest forward to knock in any rebound if it was necessary. Great awareness and potential.

Hopefully we can keep him for atleast another season but the lad is destined for the top and when he goes if Van Dijk costs you 80 mill this guy can get the same being 5 years younger!
